Psychoeducational Assessments
(AGES 6-17 AND ADULTS IN AN EDUCATIONAL SETTING)
Psychoeducational assessments help identify how a person thinks, learns, and processes information. They are often used to understand challenges with attention, learning, or academic performance. These assessments can also focus on development, giftedness, and neurodiversity including ADHD and autism.
They also include assessments of mental health, behavioural, and relationship concerns. These assessments offer practical recommendations for school support, accommodations, and strategies tailored to the individual's strengths and needs. Whether for a child or an adult in an educational setting, the goal is to support confident, effective learning.

Adult ADHD & Autism Assessments
These assessments are designed to explore questions around neurodiversity in adulthood, including ADHD and autism. Many adults seek assessment after recognizing lifelong patterns that were previously misunderstood or overlooked. Although the main question may be about neurodiversity, we also look at overall mental health, trauma, and social/emotional behaviours.
The process focuses on gaining a clear understanding of how your brain works, what supports you may benefit from, and how to move forward with greater self-awareness. Whether you're seeking a diagnosis, accommodations, or simply clarity, the assessment can be an empowering step.
Adult Psychodiagnostic Assessments
Psychodiagnostic assessments focus on understanding emotional, cognitive, and behavioural concerns in adulthood. They are helpful in clarifying mental health diagnoses such as anxiety, depression, trauma-related disorders, or other psychological challenges. These assessments can support treatment planning, inform therapy, or guide workplace or medical decisions.

The process is collaborative and thoughtful, aimed at creating a clearer picture of what’s happening and what can help.

What to Expect from the Assessment Process
FREE PHONE CONSULTATION
We begin with a 20-minute phone call to learn more about you or your child and to explore how we might be able to support you.
PRE-ASSESSMENT PREPARATION
Before booking the assessment, our administrative team will ask you to complete a set of questionnaires and gather relevant documents, such as report cards. These are essential for helping us tailor the process to your needs.
INTAKE AND INTERVIEWS
During the intake meeting, often held virtually, we’ll spend time getting to know you or your child in depth. We may also request input from caregivers or other important people in your life to get a well-rounded understanding of your experiences.
ONE-ON-ONE TESTING
Assessment sessions typically take place over two or three appointments. These involve targeted activities to evaluate areas such as cognitive functioning, academic skills, memory, emotional and social processing, problem-solving, and visual or auditory abilities. Tests are selected based on the specific concerns and questions we’re aiming to answer.
FEEDBACK SESSION
Once the assessment is complete, we’ll meet to talk through the results. We’ll discuss patterns of strengths and difficulties, provide any relevant diagnoses, and offer clear, practical recommendations for next steps.
WRITTEN REPORT
A detailed report is finalized and sent to you. For child clients, we also provide a child-friendly letter or story to help them understand their results in a positive and age-appropriate manner.
REFERRALS AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES
If ongoing support is needed, we’re happy to help connect you with therapists, programs, or other services that best fit you or your child’s needs.
FOLLOW-UP
We know questions often arise after some time has passed. That’s why we follow up 3 to 6 months after the feedback meeting to see how things are progressing.
What Should I Tell My Child Before the Assessment?
It’s natural for children to feel curious, or even a little nervous, about coming in for an assessment.
We recommend explaining it in a calm and simple way, focusing on the idea that this is a chance to better understand how their brain works and how they learn, think, and feel.

You might say something like:
“We’re going to meet with someone who helps kids by learning how their brains work. You’ll do things like puzzles, drawing, memory games, or reading and math questions. Some might feel like school, some might feel like play. It’s not a test you can pass or fail. It just helps us understand what you’re great at and where things feel a bit harder, so we can figure out the best ways to help.”

We always take time to make your child feel safe, respected, and comfortable. Breaks are welcome, and nothing happens without their consent. If your child is particularly anxious or has specific needs, feel free to let us know ahead of time. We’ll do our best to make the experience as comfortable as possible.
